If you knew you'd live to 100, how would you change your life today?

Floored!

The Blue Zones are a constant source of interest for anyone looking to experience healthy longevity. At The 100 Year Lifestyle we have delved into each of the Blue Zone locations into some detail regarding lifestyle. However, we were floored to realize that one important aspect of life and lifestyle choices for the residents of Okinawa, Japan might have slipped by us…until now.  There is one ancient yet simple practice that keeps them healthy throughout their lives. The people of Okinawa, Japan sit on the floor for many of their daily activities: resting, reading, spending time with loved ones, and even eating!

According to Dan Buettner, founder of the Blue Zones, people living in Okinawa keep furniture to a minimum in their homes, so they naturally do most of their sitting on the floor. And, he says, the health benefits are evident.   cording to Dan:

The longest-lived women in the history of the world lived in Okinawa, and I know from personal experience that they sat on the floor,” he says. “I spent two days with a 103-year-old woman and saw her get up and down from the floor 30 or 40 times, so that’s like 30 or 40 squats done daily.

Floored, but curious? Check out the article entitled, “The Surprising Effects Eating on the Floor Has For the World’s Oldest People.”
