Mildred Kirschenbaum is an advice giving social media star. She’s got over 2.1 million views on TikTok and her Instagram posts have gone viral. Mildred is also 99, turning 100 in August. She’s packed a lot of wisdom and joy into those almost 100 years. Her advice? In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mildred said, “…do yourself a favor: Enjoy everything. Don’t sit home and moan and groan and say, ‘all I do is walk to the refrigerator.’ Do something.”
She Should Know
Mildred has been taking her own advice for some time now. She’s not doing something, she’s doing pretty much everything, and enjoying every minute. She lives alone, drives, pays her bills online, and stays in touch with friends and family frequently either on her iPad, iPhone, or computer. She’s embraced technology and encourages everyone, regardless of their age, to do the same. To her, “There’s no such thing as, ‘I don’t know.’”
She also socializes – a lot – and regularly enjoys happy hour, even if there aren’t any other people there who are near her age. Cards keep her mind sharp.
Attitude is Everything
In one social media post, Mildred says that people with negative attitudes, some of her own friends, won’t live as long as she has. They complain too much. She believes that her positive attitude is her secret to longevity. See the glass as half full. She says if your children only call once a week, be grateful that they do call and that they are enjoying their life.
Making Sense
However, Mildred is pretty clear about one thing. She doesn’t necessarily believe that her wisdom is a result of her age. “If you’re not smart when you’re young, you only get dumber. Does that make sense?”
Still Healing, Still Growing
Many of Mildred’s posts are about relationships, family, and forgiveness. She’s said a lot of wise things all of us should hear. However, it appears that Mildred hasn’t always been the easiest person or mother. Actually, her youngest daughter and filmmaker, Gayle, is very much responsible for Mildred’s new career as an influencer. Together they are living proof that it is possible to heal all wounds in relationships if you have that intent. And Mildred is living proof that you’re never too old to learn something new and make changes – major changes – in your life.
