Ingredients
- 4 quarts water
- 1/2 cup Old Bay seasoning (or to taste)
- 1 lemon, halved
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed
- 1 pound smoked sausage (such as Andouille or Kielbasa), cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 pound small red potatoes, halved
- 4 ears of corn, shucked and cut into thirds
- 2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Melted butter, for serving (optional)
- Cocktail sauce, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the broth in a large pot by bringing 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add the Old Bay seasoning, lemon halves, quartered onion, and smashed garlic cloves. Let it boil for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
Add the pieces of smoked sausage and halved red potatoes to the pot. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the potatoes are just tender.
Add the shucked and cut corn pieces to the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the corn is tender.
Finally, add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the pot. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp.
Using a slotted spoon or spider strainer, transfer the cooked shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn to a large serving platter or directly onto a newspaper-lined table. Discard the lemon halves and onion quarters.
