If you knew you'd live to 100, how would you change your life today?

Time Flies When You Love What You Do – Reflections on 35 Years

On October 1, 1986, I started my practice as a chiropractor. That was 35 years ago. And yes, the time has gone by quickly, mainly because I love what I do and that I truly believe with every cell of my being, that this work is more important than ever.

It’s been 35 years of helping people…

  • Heal naturally
  • Function optimally
  • Perform athletically
  • Raise healthier families
  • Stand up for themselves
  • Improve their brain and body function
  • Overcome severe conditions and diseases
  • Develop rock solid trust in their bodies ability to heal itself and function at its highest level throughout life

What an honor it is to serve our community, my profession, and the world in this way. It has always been important to me to be able to live a meaningful life, and I have no doubt that the best is yet to come.

Me celebrating with the National Champions!

For those of you who have heard me speak, you know that I know that when I started out in practice I was just a kid. I was a kid with no life experience. I knew nothing!  What I did know was that like many of the forefathers in my industry, I trust the body’s incredible Innate Intelligence.

An avid athlete as a kid, I had a high school football injury that could have sidelined me and perhaps sent me down a different path in life. Instead, when the emergency room physician told me to stay off the field and get a prescription filled, I told my mom I didn’t want to do that. No way. I wanted to play ball. And so my mom found a chiropractor in our community, Dr. Lande, who gave me an adjustment and sent me onto the field the next day—pain free.

From that moment forward I was amazed by the body’s ability to heal—and chiropractors’ ability to help it heal naturally without invasive procedures or pharmaceuticals. I can honestly tell you that my amazement has never faded. I am more in love with my profession today than I ever have been. How many people can honestly say that after 35 years they wake up excited to go to work?

When I think of the last 35 years I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support of my amazing wife of 33 years, Lisa, and our 3 children, Dr. Jacob, Dr. Emily, and Dr. Cory—all chiropractors. I am grateful for all the patients who have entrusted me with their healthcare and the care of their family for all these years. I am grateful for the support of my community, and my continuing relationship with Life University, my alma mater and an amazing educational standard bearer working to secure a future workforce of caring and capable chiropractors and other health professionals. I am grateful for my colleagues, 100 Year Lifestyle providers around the country and the world who are as dedicated to our shared profession and their patients as I am. Together, we have all accomplished so much, and helped so many people in the process.
