If you knew you'd live to 100, how would you change your life today?

The 100 Year Lifestyle Guide to the Holiday Season

The holiday season is fast approaching. For many this is a time of joy, punctuated by moments of sheer overwhelm and exhaustion. Now is the time to double down on your dedication to your 100 Year Lifestyle. Your lifestyle perspective and values for your everyday health will see you through this holiday season with more joy, more gratitude, more fun, and much less stress. The holidays, like any other time of the year, aren’t something to get through, they are something to be enjoyed. We’re here with some reminders and support to start creating your best every holiday with The Year Lifestyle Guide to the Holiday Season!

Live Intentionally

The 100 Year Lifestyle is all about creating a life that is healthy and meaningful to you. The holidays are a very special time for many of us filled with memories, traditions, and expectations. Take the time to reflect on all those things and determine what you want to carry forward, what you want to leave behind, and what new memories, traditions, and expectations you want to create in keeping with your 100 Year Lifestyle. The holidays are not about “shoulds,” they are about doing what is meaningful to you.

Lifestyle is About Choices

You know for a fact that living a 100 Year Lifestyle is about making healthy choices. Choose not to overschedule, overspend, or overindulge. The stressful effects of overspending during the holidays can often be felt all year long. You can show your sincere appreciation for people through small but meaningful gifts, thoughtful cards, and personalized attention such as babysitting or just time together. In fact, sharing this 100 Year Lifestyle Guide to the Holiday season might be the best gift you can give anyone on your list!

Maintain your healthy practices like exercise, healthy eating, and self-care. Choose to not say “yes” to the things you don’t want to do and “no” to the things you do want to do. The choice is yours. If you want to have a new experience like volunteering but have never done so, make this year the first. If you want to try a new seasonal sport like ice skating, find a rink or lake near you.

Remember your 100 Year Lifestyle encompasses more than just your physical health. Choosing health—mental, physical, and emotional—should be your first priority, regardless of the season.

Trust Your Innate Intelligence and Don’t Miss Your Chiropractic Appointment

Feeling stressed? You know you need to stay in balance, spend enough time (but maybe not too much) with family, and not take the time to visit your chiropractor!

Continue to Make the Most of Your Time, Energy, and Talents

It’s easy to get swept up in other people’s needs and wants during the holidays.

Family traditions, expectations, and so much activity can lead us during the long holiday season to put aside lifestyle choices that work for us the rest of the year. Instead, get creative!

If you know that you need to pace yourself, that you require a certain amount of rest or recharging alone time each day to be at your best, that doesn’t mean you need to forgo holiday activities. Instead, ask for help to get other things done so you can spend time with friends and family. Accept help with chores and responsibilities from co-workers, friends, family—even strangers! People are often happy to support you so you can enjoy the holidays.

Remember that your mental health and stamina have limits, even during the holidays! You are entitled to say “no” without feeling guilty. Keeping expectations in check means allowing other people to do what they need to do to maintain their 100 Year Lifestyle as well! Sharing leftovers with good friends who were just too busy to get together before the holidays can become a fun tradition!

Your 100 is Coming!

You might have 20, 30, 40, 50 or more holiday seasons to come! And so might your friends and family. Your children will have even more! Think less in terms of fleeting moments or expenditures and more in terms of lasting memories and traditions.

Bring joy into your holiday season by creating and appreciating small moments. Make activities and movement the focal point instead of extravagant gifts and overindulgent foods. Spend time together celebrating the change of seasons. Let your children establish new family traditions. Enjoy!

The 100 Year Lifestyle wishes you and yours a joyous and healthy holiday season filled with family, friendship, and community.
