If you have ever heard the term “health spa,” likely you have heard the names Rancho La Puerta and Golden Door. Both created an international standard for healthy lifestyle, cuisine, and pampering. They are just part of the legacy of Deborah Szekely. Deborah is a spa founder, recent birthday girl, and author. She just celebrated her 100th birthday. On the same day, she published her latest book, 100 Lessons from a Grasshopper.
Deborah’s “grasshopper mind,” is the impetus for the book title. It refers to that fact that she jumps from one idea to the next without stopping. Indeed, she has led a truly amazing life. Forbes calls Deborah “a true pioneer of the balanced body, mind, spirit fitness movement.” Truly, she has spent her lifetime creating healthy longevity for herself and her clients. When asked by Forbes about her longevity, Deborah replied, “I can say probably (and only probably) that I’ve done the right things when it comes to food, sleep, and exercise. My good health, although my life has been uncertain and stressful many times, has been protected by my Pollyanna attitude. I just know things will work out, and they usually do.”
Deborah, guided by her positive attitude and healthy lifestyle, created Rancho La Puerta early in her career. It began with guests bringing their own tents to a small enclave south of the border, was named by Travel + Leisure readers as the No. 1 international destination spa in 2021. Intrigued?
